Black Sands Brewery, a newly opened resto/brewery in the Lower Haight district of San Francisco was brought to our attention by our good friend and fellow Liver Basher @Dellea_Chew. Black Sands started in the garage next door to the current restaurant selling brewing supplies and teaching classes on the homebrewing process. They still hold classes available to the public, you can find class schedules and information on homebrewing here .
The restaurant itself has a modern/refined industrial vibe, raw wood meets marble accentuated with modern fixtures and all the fixings. The food is great and the beer although limited in what the house itself produces is very good. This is a great low-key brunch spot, you won’t find the crazy mimosa pounding loudmouths here. The crowd at Black Sands is generally just a bunch of neighborhood folks enjoying a lazy Sunday.
The brewing side of the business has an extensive list of homebrewing products available on location and on their website. The homebrew kits which come in a variety of beer types, roughly $70, include all that you need to get started with brewing your first batch of beer. The can be purchased here.
