This past weekend the Meadowlands Convention Center held their 6th Annual Beer Expo and we were there to drink it all. On location were 70 breweries, mostly craft beer, but also some of the big boys like Guinness and Heineken showed face. A handful of merchants were also on site selling everything from bottle openers to Brewscuits, a dog treat made from grains used in the brewing process.
Each of the participating breweries offered two or more of their brews served in the events standard 2 oz glasses. Stone Brewing had four beers to choose from, one of which was the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Arrogant Bastard that was beautifully rich flavor. Speakeasy Ales & Lagers showed some West Coast love with Baby Daddy & Tallulah on tap, as well as bottles and cans of Scarface and Pop Gun.
What’s a Jersey-based beer expo without the Jersey boys keeping a watch on their territory! Well, 902 Brewing was there with their Black Dynomite Black IPA as well as their Heaven, Hell or Hoboken American IPA. NJ Beer Co was also in the house handing out some Weehawken Wee Heavy Scotch Ale and their LBIPA brew. There were a few concoctions we’d never seem like a craft spiked seltzer, basically a pre-made cocktail in a bottle, but hey, no ones judging. One of the best things we had at the show were the Firehouse Doughnuts out of West Chester, PA. The doughnuts paired well with some of the beer we drank, not to mention soaking up some of that alcohol to keep us on the right track.
All walks of life attended the event, from your average beer drinker to the hardcore craft beer enthusiasts. All-in-all, it was a great event to start the year off on the right foot, we’ve got a few more logged into our calendar. Looks like our liver’s are going to have a busy year.
