Kings county Distillery founded in 2010 by Colin Spoelman and David Haskell is the first distillery operating within New York City borders since the prohibition era. Its pretty amazing that laws can go unchanged for such a long period of time. Kings County produces handmade moonshine and bourbon and now chocolate whiskey out of a 115-year-old building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Their location sits in the exact location that the infamous Whiskey wars of the 1860’s took place. Pretty cool to have a distilling business in such a historic area. If you’re in the New York area we recommend stopping in for a tour and taking some of the famed whiskeys home alongside the founders recently publish book titled “Guide to Urban Moonshining: How to Make and Drink Whiskey.” More information on the distillery and book can be found here.
